Zines

paper power!

I publish my own work and encourage others in their publishing of work through instruction and event-planning.

Since 2013, I’ve been self-publishing art zines under the name Saint Lydia. My publications (so far) include On Flora, a photo zine that explores how humans live with plant life, real and faux; Your Things, a collaborative work with illustrator Elizabeth Graeber; and Poetics, which explores the absurdity of language.

I’ve exhibited my work at fairs across the country, and my zines are held by the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The third issue of On Flora was featured in Full Bleed, an exhibition of women-made photo zines and books at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in 2018.

DC Art Book Fair

I co-founded, with three friends, the DC Art Book Fair. The DC Art Book Fair was created as a way for artists, art publishers, and zinesters to have a new outlet for exhibition and selling in the city. The first fair happened in a small wearhouse-like storefront in DC in 2017; the next event was moved to the stunningly beautiful (and large) lobby of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The fair proudly gave first-time exhibitors a space to showcase their works; a scholarship program was also devised to forgo tabling fees and equalize access for certain exhibitors.

NMWA Pathfinder

For a reference class, I created this pathfinder dedicated to explaining what zines are and to finding the zines in the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The ideal presenation has the user/patron folding the print-out themselves, thus making a zine while also learning about them. Screenshots are below, you can also view or download the pdf.
